SimpliSafe – Sriya Gottumukkula – 2025
Summary
Sriya advanced SimpliSafe’s decarbonization strategy through voluntary offset market evaluation, operational sales emissions modeling, and supply chain engagement. Delivered cost, data, and strategy frameworks to guide procurement, operations, and supplier emissions reduction.
Goals
The fellowship aimed to strengthen SimpliSafe’s capacity to measure, manage, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and value chain. Key objectives were to design a structured cost model and recommendations for E-RECs and carbon offsets aligned with EPA best-practice timing rules; assess emissions implications of sales models; and lay the foundation for a supplier engagement program by prioritizing suppliers and developing tailored questionnaires for SimpliSafe global logistics suppliers. These efforts support SimpliSafe’s broader ESG strategy and commitments to credible, transparent emissions reduction.
Solutions
Sriya conducted an in-depth evaluation of voluntary market instruments, carbon offsets and unbundled E-RECs, through vendor outreach, certification review, and cost modeling for FY2025 2026, resulting in procurement recommendations aligned with Scope 1 and 2 emissions. For sales emissions, she modeled three scenarios, using activity-based and spend-based methods. Estimates were incorporated into 2025 offset cost projections. She also created questionnaires to capture mileage, fuel use, and supplier-specific data, aligning with transportation data collection in the supplier engagement project. Across supplier engagement program, she completed the initial steps of Phase 1 by prioritizing suppliers and creating customized questionnaires for contract manufacturing, transportation logistics, 3PL and warehousing suppliers. She also developed a high level roadmap outlining the next phases of supplier outreach, data validation, emissions analysis, and collaborative reduction planning across SimpliSafe’s global value chain.
Potential Impact
SimpliSafe has a practical approach to fully address Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions each year through a balanced mix of E-RECs and high-quality carbon offsets, with clear procurement recommendations, timeline, and best practices that improve transparency and audit readiness. The sales modeling will help leadership integrate emissions tracking into the company’s reporting systems. The supplier engagement questionnaire and framework will enhance Scope 3 accuracy by moving from estimates based on spend to actual supplier-reported data, while enabling collaborative emissions-reduction plans with high-impact suppliers, thus laying the foundation for measurable and transparent reductions across the value chain.
