Goals

Suriya Selvakumar worked with the Green Operations and Advanced Leadership team (GOAL) as a subsidiary of Oak View Group (OVG) to assist in the collection and analysis of data reported by member entertainment and sports venues in order to generate insights on emissions reduction and cost saving opportunities.

Solutions

Suriya built upon the existing data intake and reporting strategies by building out capabilities for member venues to report their scope 3 data in areas such as fan/employee transportation and supply chain through Salesforce Net Zero Cloud (NZC). This was done through engaging stakeholders such as operations teams within the venues to understand the data collection process better and to highlight pain points and gaps in the metrics. Once reporting strategies had been built out, Suriya built out internal dashboards within NZC to better track and analyze scope 3 data reporting. Suriya also worked with GOAL and Manchester-based arena Co-op Live to create a case study on a recent series of concerts held at the venue that utilized a complete plant-based menu across 4 sold-out shows. The case study demonstrated the benefits of a plant-based concession strategy for venues that can be carried out in partnership with artists and performers, highlighting the pioneering effort of Co-op Live to set the standard for what is possible for other venues when it comes to sustainability in concessions.

Potential Impact

As a result of data intake strategies and analysis capabilities developed through the fellowship, OVG and GOAL will be able to better understand the impact scope 3 categories such as transportation and supply chain have on their members’ emissions footprints, and this data can be used to help generate insights and provide solutions to venues on how they can continue to operate their buildings more sustainably.
