Roche Diagnostics – Chen Peng – 2024
Summary
Peng Chen helps RDSZ identify CO2 emissions, assess reduction projects, and reshape knowledge of environmental impact.
Goals
RDSZ is concerned about its ability to achieve the targeted CO2 reduction and energy saving tasks, so RDSZ dispatched Peng Chen to account for the energy consumption and emissions of electrical appliances and venues, to forecast the future energy consumption, and evaluate the implementation of actions to reduce emissions and save energy. In addition, RDSZ is concerned about the environmental impact of its operations, so it sent Peng Chen to update the eco-balance calculator.
Solutions
Peng Chen finished the goals using the following steps:
- To determine the methodology, Peng Chen read the relevant material and selected appropriate parameters and ranges, such as Scope 1,2 for CO2 emission and Scope 1-3 for eco-balance.
- Obtaining data, Peng Chen organized the data needed according to the target needs and requested main appliance data, buildings data, and emissions to water and air from relevant colleagues, and got the usable data after processing.
- Analyzing data, Peng Chen accounted for Scope 1-2 CO2 emissions, assessed sustainable energy processing, and used a data-driven and mechanism-driven model to predict future energy consumption. Also, Peng Chen fixed factors.
Potential Impact
Peng Chen pointed out that RDSZ emitted about 8,000 tCO2e into the air in 2023, among these, chiller plants and HVAC have the largest share. Peng Chen assessed projects that could reduce CO2 by more than 1,100 tCO2e. Peng Chen fixed water consumption eco-factors by learning the calculation method referring to relevant reports and finding that the new value is 10 times larger than the former, which reshaped total eco-points by 20%. Also, Peng Chen helped RDSZ make it more user-friendly.
