Smart Freight Centre – Furui Yang – 2024

Furui Yang produced a detailed report and led a webinar on U.S. zero-emission freight practices, providing international insights for Smart Freight Centre China.

During her summer internship at Smart Freight Centre China, Furui Yang focused on enhancing the organization’s understanding of the zero-emission freight transition in the U.S. She aimed to provide a detailed analysis of the current U.S. policies, technological progress, infrastructure development, and market dynamics. This comprehensive assessment intended to offer actionable insights for advancing similar initiatives in China.

Her approach involved:

  • In-depth Policy Analysis: Studying the existing U.S. policy framework to identify drivers and barriers to zero-emission freight adoption.
  • Technology and Market Evaluation: Assessing the technological advancements and infrastructure developments necessary for transitioning to zero-emission road freight.
  • Comprehensive Reporting: Compiling findings into a detailed report that elucidates the state of zero-emission road freight in the U.S., providing a clear perspective on successful practices and ongoing challenges.
  • Stakeholder Engagement through Webinars: Organizing and leading a webinar to disseminate research findings, facilitating dialogue among industry stakeholders on effective strategies and common hurdles in adopting zero-emission technologies.

The internship’s outcomes could positively influence the adoption of zero-emission freight practices. By detailing the U.S.’s approach and progress, the report and subsequent webinar fostered a knowledge exchange that highlighted effective policies and practices. It broadened the understanding of zero-emission transitions, potentially leading to environmental and public health improvements.
