Goals 

Partners Group (PG) is a global private markets investment manager with a strong commitment to responsible investment. PG enlisted EDF Climate Corps fellow Nomindari Enkhtur to help define a methodology for measuring PG’s investment carbon footprint and to develop a strategy for PG to better respond to climate-related risks and opportunities.

Solutions

Climate Change Strategy

Enkhtur evaluated PG’s climate change approach against market standards such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). Based on the assessment, Enkhtur designed a Climate Change Strategy that focuses on managing climate-related risks, sourcing low-carbon investment opportunities and minimizing PG’s internal carbon footprint.

Portfolio GHG Assessment Tool

Enkhtur also analyzed PG’s portfolio by geography and sector and developed a tailored tool to help PG measure the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of its direct investments. Using various metrics and benchmarks, the tool calculates the portfolio’s absolute and relative emissions as well as carbon/green investment exposure.

Implementation Frameworks

To support the successful implementation of the Climate Change Strategy, Enkhtur designed a series of supporting tools and frameworks including a carbon exclusion list and climate risk map, a series of questions for monitoring climate change, internal and external stakeholder maps, implementation roadmaps and work plans, and performance metrics to track PG’s progress over time.

Potential Impact

Enkhtur’s tools and recommendations provide PG with a clear plan to assess and manage climate risks and opportunities across its investments. Her project also helps to identify and prioritize climate engagements such as emissions reduction, energy efficiency and climate resilience projects in its investment portfolio of EUR 80 billion.
