Legrand – Fairuz Otila Loutfi Olivares – 2015

Goals

Legrand is a global specialist in products and systems for electrical installations and information networks, including lighting controls, energy savings and home automation. In the summer of 2015, one of the company’s goals was to reduce energy use in its facility in Tijuana, Mexico, so it enlisted Fairuz Loutfi to analyze energy efficiency and peak-demand reduction opportunities.

Solutions

After collecting and analyzing energy-use data from the Tijuana facility, Loutfi identified five projects that offered energy-use reduction opportunities. These projects were wide ranging and included: electricity procurement, a potential photovoltaic solar installation, sub-metering, a compressed air management system and an LED retrofit in the manufacturing areas.

Potential Impact

The suggested projects could produce an annual savings of $76,000 in electricity costs, 690,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and 398 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. At the end of her fellowship, Loutfi presented her findings and recommendations to the senior management of Legrand North America for consideration.
