Philadelphia Energy Solutions – Murat Guzelaydin – 2014

Goals

Murat Guzelaydin teamed up with refinery engineers, operators and management at Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES) to help move forward a suite of programs that are part of the energy conservation program for the refinery complex.

Solutions

Guzelaydin presented his recommended set of projects that encompassed utility and process leak detection, energy modeling software updates and a refinery-wide furnace efficiency audit. In addition, he provided initial stage capital program economics for the justification of an analyzer technology designed to improve fuel consumption through more accurate measurement of heater combustion products. A heater efficiency audit program was approved, and Guzelaydin worked with the PES procurement team and technology provider to initiate the effort. Guzelaydin completed the submission of the initial capital funds request form for the heater analyzer project completed the documentation required to obtain approval for the next phase of the process.

Potential Impact

Guzelaydin has moved several of the refinery’s energy projects forward. The remaining programs are undergoing additional evaluation, where Guzelaydin work will be used as the basis for justification.
