Pharmavite – Katherine Tejano – 2014

Goals

Kathy Tejano was brought in by Pharmavite LLC to analyze the state of its current company-wide energy management practices and recommend specific energy efficiency projects in its manufacturing and warehouse locations in Southern California. The company discloses greenhouse gas emissions to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and performs an annual GHG inventory in order to monitor and reduce emissions.

Solutions

She was able to model the energy use by process for two of Pharmavite’s industrial manufacturing facilities. Tejano also identified large potential energy efficiency projects in LED lighting upgrades and the installation of variable frequency drives. Working with the CSR & Sustainability Manager, Tejano helped write and collect data for Pharmavite’s 2013 CDP report and GHG inventory, administered surveys and researched alternative transportation options for employees. She also investigated the potential for electric vehicle charging stations.

Potential Impact

Combined, these projects could save the company upwards of $460,000 in net operating costs, up to 800,000 kilowatt hours of energy and 725 metric tons of carbon emission annually. Additionally, Tejano identified potential energy conservation measures in shutdown procedures, the use of occupancy sensors in stairwells, hallways and maintenance rooms and various other initiatives that could save energy.
