Kalahari Resorts – Daphne Medina – 2013

Goals

Daphne Medina worked with Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Wisconsin Dells, WI and Sandusky, OH searching for energy efficiency opportunities in all building systems.

Solutions

Medina focused on ways to reduce energy use in the guest rooms and public spaces of the resort while maintaining a guest experience that “exceeds expectations.” Medina identified several opportunities including improvements to guest room energy management systems through more efficient HVAC technology and occupancy sensors, installation of LED lighting technology throughout both resorts and an employee engagement program to involve resort staff in the company’s sustainability efforts.

Potential Impact

In total, she estimated that through implementation of these projects, Kalahari could save $452,000 and over 5 million kilowatt hours annually.
