Ocean County, New Jersey – Sam Shannon – 2012
Goals
Ocean County, New Jersey, hired Sam Shannon to review its Energy Master Plan (EMP), the strategic energy efficiency roadmap it has been implementing for the past four years.
Solutions
Despite EMP’s success, Shannon identified avenues to reduce energy use that it did not cover: PC power management software, occupancy sensors for county buildings, lighting upgrades and tankless water heaters.
Potential Impact
If implemented, Shannon’s recommendations could save the county $160,000 per year, reduce its annual energy consumption by almost one million kilowatt hours, and avoid nearly 1,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
