Syniverse – Kevin Lehman – 2012

Goals

Syniverse, a leading mobile technology company, hired Kevin Lehman to forge ahead on the sustainability goals outlined in its 2011 Carbon Reduction Report. He focused its goal to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent.

Solutions

To fulfill this task, Lehman focused on data centers. He identified several opportunities to improve the efficiency of Syniverse’s 200,000 square foot Florida office and data center, ultimately recommending server virtualization, several cold air containment strategies and a computer room air conditioning upgrade that could save 30 percent of the energy the room consumes. Additionally, Lehman identified a no-cost opportunity to save on lighting and cooling, simply by changing the building’s operating schedule.

Potential Impact

Together, Lehman’s projects could save 1.5 million kilowatt hours and $125,000 in energy costs annually.
