Brandon Rothrock, a four-time Climate Corps alum, won the Environmental Justice Award.
Brandon has built his work around ensuring that communities disproportionately affected by climate change are represented in environmental research, decision-making, and resilience efforts, beginning with contributions to EDF’s environmental justice policies and strategy during his time with Climate Corps.
In 2026, his research at Ohio State examined how LGBTQIA+ people, people with disabilities, and Appalachian communities experience extreme heat, flooding, and the clean-energy transition, including barriers that can limit access to disaster-recovery resources.
He also worked with mutual-aid and LGBTQIA+ organizations across the Southeast to document community experiences following Hurricane Helene and translated his research into practical resources, including an extreme-weather preparedness guide designed specifically for LGBTQIA+ communities.
Brandon’s work demonstrates how community partnership and applied research can help ensure that resilience strategies reflect the experiences of people who are often overlooked in traditional climate planning.
