Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment – Yinan Zhou – 2024

SummaryYinan Zhou helped AMEC to map and analyze the electricity data and identify energy saving opportunities.GoalsAdvanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. China (AMEC, stock code: 688012) is an innovative Asia-based semiconductor equipment company with a range of proprietary fabrication solutions designed to advance technology, increase productivity, and reduce manufacturing costs for leading global manufacturers of semiconductors and LEDs. In 2024 summer, AMEC enlisted EDF Climate Corps fellow Yinan Zhou to map and analyze the electricity data of the newly-completed MFG building, as well as identify energy-saving opportunities.SolutionsOver ten weeks of work, QEHS cooperated with MFG, FAC, GMO, and Lean Production departments to conduct an energy review to map the energy stream and consumption of the MFG Building.
– Data collection and analysis: Yinan requested and collected historical electricity data and production information from multiple sources and sorted out the power consumption structure and electricity meter architecture of the MFG Building. After analyzing massive amounts of data with MATLAB, the project divided the electricity consumption data into different dimensions and visualized the results.
– Energy opportunities: Based on data analysis, Yinan further identified the significant energy users and calculated energy consumption per production. Various energy-saving opportunities were identified from different perspectives.Potential ImpactThrough several meetings and workshops, Yinan cooperated with colleagues and proposed 15 energy-saving opportunities. After voting within the project team, 13 of those opportunities were selected and will be conducted as appropriate, with about 420 MWh of electricity and USD$50,300 savings annually. Other long-term measurements will also be evaluated and further discussed in AMEC.
