Applied Systems – Daniel Yahya – 2025
Summary
Daniel Yahya developed Applied Systems’ Scope 3 inventory and SB-253 compliant roadmap, establishing a scalable framework for emissions management.
Goals
Anticipating California Senate Bill 253 disclosure requirements, Applied Systems enlisted Daniel Yahya to develop a repeatable process for measuring and reporting Scope 3 emissions. The objectives included developing a Scope 3 greenhouse gas inventory, proposing data collection methods, and defining a roadmap to SB-253 compliant disclosure. The work provides leadership with a structured, auditable framework to manage emissions and prepare for the initial reporting year in
2027.
Solutions
Daniel delivered four connected outputs:
1. Scope 3 Inventory Calculations (baseline year): Quantified emissions across relevant categories through collaboration with stakeholders in finance, procurement, human resources, facility operations, and data centers, using documented calculation methods to support repeatable annual updates.
2. Inventory Management Plan: Documented scope, category-level methods, data sources and ownership, and quality-assurance procedures in a practical guide for annual updates.
3. Data Collection Proposal: Created a stakeholder-ready playbook for annual gathering, validation, and updating of activity data, detailing owners, required inputs, collection timing, and gap-closure steps to strengthen data quality and accountability.
4. SB-253 Roadmap: Outlined actions, milestones, and governance, translating the current state into a clear sequence of tasks to ensure accurate, compliant disclosure in 2027.
Potential Impact
This work establishes the framework for Applied Systems to deliver accurate, SB-253 compliant Scope 3 disclosure in 2027 to support Applied’s ESG program enhancements and alignment with reporting requirements. It improves data completeness, accuracy, and traceability, clarifies ownership, and establishes governance for reliable annual updates, reducing rework each reporting cycle. Analysis of category results identifies emission hotspots, directing supplier engagement and targeted data quality improvements. Leadership at Applied Systems now has a documented, auditable path to manage Scope 3 emissions and plan measurable and achievable reductions.
