Bintix Waste Research – Damini Malhotra – 2025
Summary
Damini created white papers, a packaging roadmap, and a household ranking system to position Bintix as a thought leader in sustainability.
Goals
Bintix, a young start-up revolutionizing waste management, pioneers a world-first system that turns discarded household packaging into real-time, highly granular consumption insights. By collecting and cataloguing waste weekly with AI, it provides brands with unparalleled visibility for demand forecasting and sustainable product planning. Recognizing the broader potential of this data, Damini joined Bintix to strengthen its thought leadership by exploring how such insights can inform waste management systems and guide policy for wider societal benefit.
Solutions
Damini approached the challenge of positioning Bintix as a thought leader through a three-part process:
1. Author White Papers: She transformed household-level waste data into Sustainability Insights by connecting waste generation to consumption behaviors, packaging choices, and the role of government policy in shaping the packaging segment. Where needed, she validated findings through new dataset analyses, ensuring credibility and rigor.
2. Design a Packaging Roadmap: To firmly place Bintix at the intersection of packaging and sustainability, she developed a roadmap showing how Bintix could leverage its data to provide actionable packaging material insights for brands and establish a strong presence in the sustainability discourse.
3. Create Household & Community Ranking Metrics: To motivate active participation without rewarding overconsumption, Damini innovated a holistic scoring system for household dry waste. This framework enabled both household and community-level rankings, encouraging proper segregation and scalable implementation.
Potential Impact
If implemented at scale, Damini’s work could shift how waste data informs both brands and policy. The white papers build evidence for connecting consumption and packaging to systemic reform, while the packaging roadmap positions Bintix as a trusted partner for sustainable transitions. The household and community ranking metrics can drive higher participation in segregation, reducing landfill dependency and enabling measurable reductions in unmanaged waste, laying the foundation for data-driven, community-led sustainability solutions in Indian metros.
