CA Technologies – Jonathan Hempton – 2013

Jonathan Hempton worked in CA Technologies’ Office of Sustainability in Framingham, MA.

During his fellowship, Hempton targeted potential energy savings in the company’s Framingham office computer labs. Through a combination of virtualization, consolidation and better space management, Hempton identified more than $30,000 in potential annual cost savings and approximately 240,000 kilowatt hours in energy reductions– enough to power more than 19 U.S. homes each year. The energy efficiency projects identified by Jonathan have a combined payback of less than one year and could reduce the office’s total annual energy use by over four percent.

In addition to energy efficiency initiatives, Hempton spearheaded the creation of a corporate water management program for CA Technologies. Specifically, Hempton developed a series of tools, like a water audit questionnaire and office scorecard, designed to improve water use transparency throughout the company’s real estate portfolio. Moving forward CA Technologies will, for the first time, be able to benchmark, report and take actionable steps to manage company water use.
