City of New Haven – Cheri Tan – 2012

Goals

Cheri Tan was hired to develop a streamlined, centralized system for energy reporting and analysis in the City of New Haven’s main municipal buildings.

Solutions

With the help of facilities staff and billing data, Tan developed accessible, time-efficient procedures for employing a tool which assesses building energy efficiency, allocates capital to efficiency projects and tracks historical energy use trends. Tan also modeled the effects of installing PC Power Management software on all municipal computers.

Potential Impact

The PC power management project, Tan determined, could save New Haven approximately $54,000 and 91,000 kilowatt hours of electricity every year, as well as nearly 50 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
