CVS Health – Andrew Ebenezer Timanta – 2025
Summary
Andrew supported CVS Health’s sustainability team in its goal to reduce Scope 3, Category 1 emissions (Purchased Goods & Services) by 47% by 2030, aligned with SBTi. He developed a 2-year supplier engagement roadmap with 15 key strategic sustainability initiatives, designed climate and emissions workshops for the procurement team, created a supplier recognition program, provided insights on the 2024 CDP Survey, reviewed Scope 3 emissions baseline calculation, and drafted high-level environmental policies for CVS suppliers.
Goals
The goal of this fellowship was to advance CVS Health’s Scope 3 emissions reduction strategy by strengthening supplier engagement and embedding sustainability into procurement practices. Andrew focused on equipping the procurement team to confidently engage suppliers on climate topics, and integrate emissions reduction into sourcing decisions. This work directly contributes to CVS’s target of reducing emissions from purchased goods and services by 47% by 2030, in alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Solutions
To help CVS meet its climate goals, Andrew developed a 2-year supplier engagement roadmap with 15 strategic sustainability initiatives. These included launching a supplier recognition program, hosting best practice roundtables, embedding sustainability clauses into contracts, and initiating joint pilot projects. He designed a blended climate and emissions workshop plan to build procurement team capacity. Andrew also conducted sustainability assessments for seven suppliers, analyzed CDP Survey 2024 data across 100+ suppliers, reviewed Scope 3 emissions baseline calculation, and drafted a high-level environmental policy to guide supplier compliance and best practices. His work provided actionable tools and frameworks to drive supplier engagement and climate-aligned procurement decisions that directly reduce Scope 3 emissions.
Potential Impact
Andrew’s work directly enabled CVS Health to embed sustainability into procurement decision-making in ways that reduce Scope 3 emissions and accelerate progress toward its 2030 climate target. His roadmap and workshop plan empower procurement teams to engage suppliers more effectively and integrate climate criteria into contracts and sourcing strategies. The supplier assessments and CDP insights gave CVS a clearer view of supplier maturity and emissions performance. His contributions are instrumental in aligning procurement actions with CVS’s emissions reduction goals and advancing its leadership in sustainable supply chains.
