Dallas College – Celia Ristow – 2021

Goals

As one of the largest community colleges in Texas, Dallas College recognizes that working to make sure its supply chain is sustainable can have significant local and global impacts, including reduced emissions. As part of ongoing efforts to build resilience and climate action into daily operations, Dallas College tasked Celia with developing concrete, actionable recommendations for supply chain sustainability and Scope 3 emissions reduction.

Solutions

Celia identified industry best practices and conducted conversations with stakeholders to understand the status of Dallas College’s current supply chain, identifying strengths, gaps, and opportunities. Based on her findings, she created a road map of recommendations for moving to a more sustainable supply chain to be implemented across a one-, two-, and five-year time frame. Additionally, Celia identified key opportunities for Scope 3 emissions reduction at Dallas College, developing a suite of concrete steps to reduce their Scope 3 footprint.

Potential Impact

Celia’s advisory on sustainable sourcing methods and Scope 3 emissions reduction actions will help Dallas College take tangible steps toward a lower carbon footprint and a more sustainable future. Specifically, Celia’s work will be incorporated into their upcoming Resilience and Climate Action Plan, serving as a guide to decisions around supplier engagement, reaching zero waste, infrastructure planning, and more. Through this work, Dallas College aims to minimize its environmental footprint while continuing to maximize the resources and opportunities it offers to its students.
