DIRECTV – Nathan Jayappa – 2012
Goals
DIRECTV, America and Latin America’s largest direct-broadcast satellite service provider, hired Nathan Jayappa to identify energy saving opportunities within its data centers. He worked from the company’s operational headquarters in Denver, Colo., with the DIRECTV sustainability team.
Solutions
Jayappa recommended a comprehensive Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) solution, as well as chiller and variable frequency drive (VFD) retrofits. He also audited the data centers for energy use, identified optimal set point temperatures and identified rebate and incentive opportunities.
Potential Impact
Jayappa’s recommendations could save DIRECTV over $2.1 million in operating costs over the life of the projects, as well as 18,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
