Fox Networks Group – Yuan Yuan – 2013

Goals

Yuan Yuan spent her summer as an EDF Climate Corps fellow at Fox Networks Group (FNG) based in Los Angeles, CA. FNG is a primary operating unit of 21st Century Fox (formerly News Corporation). 21st Century Fox is strongly committed to minimizing its environmental impact, developing sustainably and inspiring others to take action. 21st Century Fox set a series of sustainability goals to show leadership within the industry, including an emissions intensity reduction target of 25% at year 2020 from a 2013 baseline, prioritizing clean energy sources for electricity and fuels where feasible. Yuan Yuan was tasked with helping FNG achieve these goals.

Solutions

Yuan’s energy efficiency projects included performing an in-depth investment assessment for LED lighting replacement, collecting energy consumption data from nationwide FNG offices on a monthly basis and managing an efficiency fund for employment engagement. Additionally, she did research into the possibility of putting IceCOLD, an additive that makes functioning air conditioners more efficient, into the HVAC system at Fox Studios, and evaluated the incentives and rebates programs for an ongoing solar project in the State of Texas.

Potential Impact

These projects represent over $13,000 in reduced annual energy costs, as well as potential savings from labor cost, HVAC efficiency improvements and employee engagement for the organization.
