Google – Aditi Bhatkhande – 2021

Goals

The Global Sustainability Team leads sustainability strategy and programs at Google. Through this fellowship, Aditi supported key sustainability reporting and disclosure projects. With this experience, she aimed to build the skills to manage climate disclosure projects and gain exposure to the complexities of climate action at a global technology company like Google.

Solutions

Aditi’s core focus was supporting the preparation of Alphabet’s 2021 CDP Climate Change response and her contributions included researching and developing content that helped describe Alphabet’s climate work, ensuring alignment across the response and with Google’s public sustainability content; managing the response in CDP’s submission portal; and creating resources for internal review processes. Specifically, Aditi created a tool that enabled better management of content revisions across reporting years. Additionally, Aditi supported Alphabet’s DJSI response. Lastly, Aditi also participated in numerous working group sessions and conducted a peer report review exercise.

Potential Impact

This fellowship helped Google benefit from Aditi’s expertise with CDP reporting, familiarity with the trends and challenges in climate disclosure, and passion for cross-functional corporate sustainability initiatives. Aditi’s contributions will also enable Google to enhance its sustainability reporting processes in future reporting years.

This experience also allowed Aditi to learn the workings of a global sustainability team while developing skills such as process development, stakeholder engagement, user experience analysis, and sustainability content development. Aditi’s expanded toolkit will empower her to further her career in corporate climate action.
