HCA Healthcare – Kegan Daugherty – 2013

Goals

Kegan Daugherty was tasked with evaluating the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard and figuring out how to incorporate an energy management system across HCA Healthcare’s acute care facilities.

Solutions

An effective, energy management system provides a framework to improve energy performance. Daugherty developed an ISO 50001 compliant energy management system template. The template provides the opportunity for HCA facilities to develop an energy management system that fits its energy profile and sets realistic energy performance objectives and targets. The template walks a facility step-by-step through the creation of an ISO 50001 compliant energy management system, following the Plan-Do-Check-Act model.

Potential Impact

The template will be made available to HCA facilities, and opting into implementing a compliant energy management system could, along with other energy reduction activities underway, contribute towards HCA’s energy reduction target of 250,000 British thermal units per square foot per year per facility.
