John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation – Jim Bell – 2013

Goals

Jim Bell assessed the Marquette Building, a national landmark in downtown Chicago, and created a multiyear roadmap to reduce 20 percent of the building’s energy consumption by 2017 for Retrofit Chicago Commercial Buildings Initiative.

Solutions

Bell created a detailed energy roadmap for the MacArthur Foundation that optimizes capital investment, achieves substantial energy savings and preserves the historic integrity of the Marquette Building. He worked extensively with building staff, contractors and engineering consultants to develop a detailed selection of these energy conservation measures that were verified using an eQuest energy model developed by Environmental Systems Design.

Potential Impact

Bell’s energy conservation measures could offer over 7.8 billion British thermal units in annual energy savings.
