Lenovo – Ziqi Wang – 2025

Ziqi Wang empowered data-driven eco-design at Lenovo by advancing its LCA platform and educating future sustainability leaders.

Lenovo is committed to ambitious science-based emissions reduction targets, with product eco-design being a critical strategy. The internal LCA platform is essential for measuring product carbon footprints, but requires advanced features to improve its analytical rigor and usability, especially for supply chain partners. Ziqi Wang was enlisted to research and define new functionalities for this platform and to develop educational content to raise awareness of Lenovo’s eco-design practices among future professionals.

Ziqi Wang conducted a comprehensive benchmarking analysis of commercial LCA software and best practices to identify key gaps and opportunities. She then designed detailed requirements for four new platform features: uncertainty analysis, data quality scoring, sensitivity analysis, and scenario modeling tools. Her approach focused on ensuring these complex features were integrated intuitively, lowering the barrier to entry for non-expert users like supplier engineers. Concurrently, she developed a one-hour training course that involved synthesizing international climate policy, LCA fundamentals, Lenovo’s climate goals, and its eco-design journey into an engaging curriculum for students.

The proposed LCA platform enhancements are poised to significantly improve the reliability of Lenovo’s product carbon footprint calculations and streamline data collaboration with suppliers. If fully implemented, these tools will enable more confident and data-driven eco-design decisions, directly contributing to the reduction of Scope 3 emissions. Furthermore, the training course equips the next generation of engineers and designers with crucial sustainability knowledge, helping to build a talent pipeline aligned with Lenovo’s mission and amplifying the impact of its eco-design principles beyond the organization.
