Los Angeles Department of Water and Power – Jenny Kim – 2012
Goals
Jenny Kim spent her summer at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), which, as the nation’s largest publicly-owned utility, serves a diverse population of four million residents. LADWP enlisted Kim to help bring its grant-funded energy efficiency and water conservation programs for nonprofits in-house.
Solutions
During her fellowship, Kim engaged with the leaders of homelessness, public health and religious nonprofits, providing the organizations with energy efficiency resources such as Kill-A-Watt plug-in energy monitors. She also developed a social network to help nonprofits connect with one another and share information. Kim also researched energy efficiency programs based on behavior change, a type of program LADWP has considered launching.
Potential Impact
Ultimately, her research and recommendations will help develop a new energy efficiency grant program for Los Angeles nonprofits.
