Mack Trucks – Nikhil Rai – 2012

Goals

Nikhil Rai was brought in by Mack Trucks to prepare a comprehensive implementation strategy for ANSI/ANAB ISO 50001 energy management standards.

Solutions

Rai collaborated with facilities and environmental health and safety staff to achieve Superior Energy Performance – Mature Pathway certification at the assembly facility in Macungie, Pa. As part of the drive toward Mature Pathway, which is the highest possible certification under the ANSI/ANAB standard, Rai measured 95 percent of Mack Trucks’ energy use from manufacturing and ancillary processes in the last ten years. He also identified energy efficiency opportunities such as paint booth efficiency optimization, ambient temperature reduction and indoor and outdoor lighting efficiency improvement.

Potential Impact

Together, these projects could save over $54,000 in energy costs every year, as well as 886,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and nearly 700 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
