Mahindra Group – Pavan Jaini – 2025

Pavan Jaini conducted strategic research for the Mahindra Group on two areas of sustainability: green cement and the cement sector’s decarbonization, and agricultural carbon credits. Pavan’s work provided insights into industrial decarbonization pathways and nature-based carbon solutions, contributing to Mahindra’s long-term sustainability roadmap and climate leadership.

The Mahindra Group enlisted Pavan to work on the following two areas:

Green Cement
• Provide an industry overview of green cement, including production processes and pathways for decarbonization.
• Benchmark top cement companies’ climate strategies to identify leading practices and opportunities.

Agricultural Carbon Credits
• Research how agricultural carbon credits are created, including relevant methodologies and value chains.
• Develop a summary note outlining viable approaches for Mahindra to explore in the voluntary carbon market.

Green Cement: Synthesized insights into an industry overview report of green cement and the cement sector, which highlighted key policies, technological enablers, emission intensities, peer benchmarking, and decarbonization pathways.
Agricultural Carbon Credits: Identified opportunities for Mahindra Automotive and Farm Sectors (AFS) to leverage carbon credits while supporting farmers.
Miscellaneous Tasks: Created research notes for the Group on key topics, including Sustainable Aviation Fuels, ICJ Advisory Opinion on Climate Change, CBAM, and Voluntary Carbon Markets, from sustainability webinars and available secondary sources. Additionally, supported the planning and organization of various Mahindra sustainability events, such as a workshop on accelerating sustainable practices in the tyre value chain.

Green Cement Thought Leadership: Pavan’s research provided Mahindra with a clear overview of technological and policy drivers in cement decarbonization. The benchmarking exercise highlighted how leading producers are advancing their climate strategies, equipping Mahindra with insights on how to potentially develop a green procurement policy for the Group’s future.
Agricultural Carbon Credits Opportunities: The summary note outlined actionable pathways for Mahindra AFS to generate and leverage carbon credits. This could prove to be a basis upon which Mahindra AFS can explore generating carbon credits for their customers.
