Match Group – Adele Colwell – 2024

SummaryAdele developed a strategic supplier engagement program to help Match Group meet its science-based emissions targets.GoalsAdele joined Match Group to help reduce supply chain emissions in line with the company’s recently validated science-based targets. To address these indirect emissions, Adele developed a targeted supplier engagement strategy that prioritized suppliers based on emissions impact, created a standardized sustainability questionnaire with 19 questions, and began establishing open communication channels with 27 high priority suppliers encompassing 47% of Match Group’s emissions. These efforts aimed to enhance transparency and identify reduction opportunities.SolutionsAdele developed a supply chain emissions reduction strategy through four steps:
1. Developed a targeted supplier engagement strategy based on emissions contributed to Match Group’s Scope 3 inventory, maturity, and potential ability to reduce direct emissions to prioritize suppliers.
2. Created a supplier engagement and data collection system to track engagement and outreach moving forward to easily and efficiently track progress.
3. Created a standardized questionnaire to assess suppliers’ environmental practices, working closely with procurement to ensure alignment with company goals and compliance requirements.
4. Began establishing clear communication channels with key suppliers. This approach began building transparency, encouraged data sharing, and will enable suppliers to identify emissions reduction opportunities, moving Match Group closer to achieving its science-based targets.Potential ImpactIf fully implemented, this program’s efforts could significantly advance Match Group’s progress toward its science-based targets by reducing Scope 3 emissions across its supply chain. By prioritizing 27 suppliers that encompass 47% of Match Group’s emissions, beginning the establishment of clear engagement channels, and driving alignment on sustainability practices, the company can achieve meaningful reductions in emissions. These actions could not only enhance transparency and accountability but also promote cost savings by identifying efficient practices and improving supplier relationships.
