Medline – Benedicta Asiedu – 2025
Summary
During her EDF Climate Corps fellowship at Medline Industries, Benedicta led the company’s first consolidation and in-depth analysis of its United States Scope 3 spend data.
Goals
The project aimed to identify top emission hotspots, improve data quality, and provide a foundation for long-term supplier engagement. Prior to this work, Medline had limited visibility into supplier-level emissions, with fragmented procurement data.
Solutions
To address these challenges, Benedicta worked across Medline’s decentralized procurement systems to collect, clean, and standardize supply chain data. She analyzed company-wide purchasing activity in the US, identified key emissions drivers, and grouped suppliers by spend and product category. Building on these insights, she developed recommendations for emissions reduction and supplier engagement.
Potential Impact
This project establishes a strong foundation for Medline’s Scope 3 data and long-term efforts to reduce supply chain emissions. By identifying high-impact suppliers and recommending measures to support data collection and engagement, the company is now better positioned to understand, measure, and act on its Scope 3 footprint. The work also enhances internal capabilities for tracking Scope 3 emissions and supports the integration of climate considerations into procurement decisions. Over time, these strategies can be scaled across Medline’s global operations, advancing the company’s broader sustainability goals and climate leadership.
