Nixon Peabody – Jeannette Yee – 2012

Goals

Boston-based global law firm Nixon Peabody LLP (NP) hired Jeannette Yee to develop an energy management roadmap for its future energy management. Her work focused on identifying efficiency opportunities and benchmarking energy use at NP’s Boston headquarters, as well as select NP offices nationwide, and was a part of NP’s Legally Green® initiative.

Solutions

Yee found many efficiency opportunities in office lighting, identifying projects such as light-emitting diode (LED) retrofits that could reduce lighting energy use by up to 68 percent at one site. She also identified incentives through a local utility that would cover 100 percent of equipment costs. Yee also conducted a virtual summit on energy efficiency for Nixon Peabody’s 13 U.S. offices and Paris location.

Potential Impact

The projects Yee recommended to Nixon Peabody could save the firm $26,000 annually – $93,000 over the life of the projects – as well as 140,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and 90 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Nixon Peabody has already begun to implement a number of Yee’s recommendations.
