Oakland Port Authority – Eric Yee – 2012

Goals

Eric Yee was asked to help the Port of Oakland undertake an energy efficiency and renewable energy study with Lawrence Berkeley National Labs (LBNL).

Solutions

Yee interviewed dozens of Port employees, compiling already-collected energy data, documenting existing energy efficiency efforts and envisioning future initiatives. These interviews identified energy efficiency opportunities from overhead lighting at the airport to computer power management at Port facilities. Yee also identified significant barriers to carrying out the LBNL study, such as tenant relations, inadequate interdivisional communication and lease complexity.

Potential Impact

Ultimately, Yee recommended several ways of addressing these issues, which could lay the groundwork for a more energy efficient future at the Port of Oakland.
