Resource Label Group – Marney Coleman – 2021

Goals

Resource Label Group (RLG), a multinational manufacturer of product packaging and labeling technologies, is facing increased demand for ESG reporting from their customers. Committed to continuing their sustainability journey and maintaining important customer accounts RLG enlisted Marney Coleman to facilitate the company’s first corporate-wide CDP Climate Change report. Additionally, she developed a structure to sustain and expand the company’s ESG reporting and other sustainability initiatives.

Solutions

Coleman employed three strategies to successfully complete her project for RLG:

  1. Cross functional collaboration: Coleman engaged with stakeholders across the company to gain insight into corporate and facility specific ESG initiatives. She also facilitated weekly cross-functional meetings to ensure internal collaboration and alignment.
  2. Quantitative and qualitative data analysis: Coleman synthesized quantitative and qualitative data into a compelling narrative for the company. Specifically, Coleman looked at energy, emissions, and product data.
  3. Gap analysis: To ensure a successful reporting year in 2022, Marney created a gap analysis for the CDP Climate Change, Forests, and Water Security questionnaires. Additionally, she identified organizational gaps for ESG accountability and used this to inform recommendations on a structure to sustain ESG initiatives.

Potential Impact

As a result of Coleman’s work, RLG now has a baseline corporate-wide CDP response to build off of for future reporting years. This baseline is crucial in fulfilling RLG’s sustainability commitments and meeting key customer accounts’ requests for disclosure. Additionally, Coleman’s work around creating an ESG reporting structure provides the company with a framework to continue CDP reporting obligations and expand EcoVadis reporting requests, as well as ways to illustrate leadership in the sector around ESG strategy. Ultimately, this will help to grow the company’s sustainability strategy and impact.
