Signet Jewelers – Xinyi Wang – 2018

Goals

Signet Jewelers, the largest specialty jewelry retailer in the U.S., UK and Canada, was looking to increase energy efficiency in its headquarters’ campus. The company enlisted EDF Climate Corps fellow Xinyi Wang to find opportunities for energy and cost savings by upgrading equipment in its headquarters.

Solutions

Xinyi analyzed the electricity and gas use data of Signet’s six buildings for the past three years and identified the priorities for efficiency projects. Then she proposed strategies include the installation of Energy Management Information System, enrollment of Demand Response programs, introduction of sub-metering and employee engagement programs, Building Automation System re-tuning, lighting retrofit, introduction of daylight optimization technologies, roof-top and carport solar installation, and EV charging stations installation. She conducted financial analysis for each project and gave implementation recommendations based on investment, returns and project impact.

Potential Impact

These projects, if fully implemented, could result in over 5,000,000 kWh of annual electricity savings, as well as greater values of PR/communication.
