SKF – Fangzhuo Zhou – 2024

Fangzhuo Zhou led a comprehensive ESG development project for SKF China, delivering strategic recommendations that seamlessly integrated sustainability with SKF’s global strategy, China business practices as well as industry development, and the latest EU-China policies.

SKF China, a leading MNC in bearing technology, is increasingly recognizing the importance of a localized ESG strategy that aligns with its operations within the Chinese market. To address this need, Fangzhuo Zhou was engaged to analyze the latest ESG policies in China and Europe, conduct a SWOT analysis of SKF China’s ESG development, and propose a strategic framework that integrates ESG principles into the company’s business model.

Fangzhuo conducted a comprehensive three-phase approach to enhance SKF China’s ESG development. First, she analyzed six major ESG policies from China and Europe, producing a 66-page Summary Report and a Reference Guideline to streamline policy interpretation. Next, she conducted over 30 interviews, organized an ESG workshop, and identified materiality topics crucial to SKF China’s ESG strategy, culminating in a detailed SWOT analysis. Finally, Fangzhuo created a strategic ESG framework, integrating sustainability across SKF China’s operations and providing a phased action plan to ensure compliance, resilience, and competitive advantage.

Fangzhuo’s work provides SKF China with a solid foundation of ESG development at the policy and business development level, helping the company establish its ESG strategic framework from scratch and develop a clear SWOT understanding of its current ESG progress. By integrating ESG principles into its core stakeholders, SKF China is well-positioned to enhance its competitive edge, build a resilient supply chain, and support sustainable growth in a rapidly evolving market. The strategic recommendations and tools developed during this fellowship will play a significant role in guiding SKF China’s future ESG initiatives.
