Smart & Final – Michael Sciortino – 2013

Goals

Michael Sciortino was brought in to analyze energy use at all of Smart & Final’s operating stores, identify energy efficiency opportunities and consult on the development of Smart & Final’s energy management program.

Solutions

Sciortino assisted with the financial analysis of a pilot LED project as well as an enterprise-wide roll-out of LED fixtures. Once the pilot project was approved, Sciortino coordinated with store operators and vendors to control costs and ensure the realization of energy and maintenance savings of the LED fixtures. After conducting store visits and discussing costs with vendors throughout his engagement, Sciortino wove information from equipment surveys with energy use data to analyze the financial return of an enterprise-wide re-commissioning effort. Sciortino also proposed recommendations for the ongoing development of Smart & Final’s energy management program and processes.
