Tishman Speyer – Colleen Gearns – 2018

Goals

Tishman Speyer is one of the leading owners, developers, operators and fund managers of first-class real estate worldwide. They enlisted EDF Climate Corps fellow Colleen Gearns to lay out plans for the company’s second GRI compliant report, and assist with additional sustainability projects including their GRESB submission, LEED re-certification and health and wellness strategies.

Solutions

Gearns delivered a roadmap for the company’s next Sustainability report, which included recommendations for external initiatives the organization should consider joining and voluntary frameworks that the firm should start reporting against. She came to these recommendations after extensive competitor benchmarking and discussions with internal stakeholders. She also led a new materiality assessment, ensuring that the company reports on all relevant business activities. On the health and wellness front, Gearns created a guide detailing how buildings can reach base building Fitwel certification. Finally, she created a guide that Tishman Speyer will be able to provide to tenants, who wish to certify their internal spaces to higher Fitwel ratings.

Potential Impact

Gearns’ reporting work will be seen in the company’s sustainability report released next summer. If implemented, her guide of health and wellness strategies for buildings will allow them to secure Fitwel certifications, improving the quality of life for all tenants and increasing Tishman Speyer’s sustainability profile.
