Tishman Speyer – Diana Swidler – 2019
Goals
Tishman Speyer, a global real estate owner, developer and operator, enlisted EDF Climate Corps fellow Diana Swidler to perform ESG benchmarking, create a roadmap to complete its second GRI report with stakeholder engagement strategies and analyze energy savings strategies for their NYC portfolio.
Solutions
To develop a roadmap for the second GRI sustainability report, Swidler researched innovative trends in the real estate market, stakeholder engagement strategies and sustainability goals in commercial real estate. In order to engage employees, she organized three Lunch & Learn sessions to provide training on Tishman Speyer sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency strategies. Swidler designed a roadmap for a competition based on energy management and performance. As part of the tenants’ engagement, she designed a strategy to engage tenants into energy conversation measures. Turning her attention to tenant engagement, Swidler designed a strategy to engage tenants to utilize energy conversation measures.
Potential Impact
If implemented, the ESG benchmarking, GRI roadmap, employee engagement, and educational sustainability initiatives will help enable the region to take action to create social, environmental and economic benefits. The tenant engagement strategy has the potential to reduce annual CO2e emissions by 4,825 metric tons and reduce annual energy usage by nearly 20,700 MWh. The tenant engagement strategy has the potential to transform the NYC portfolio into more energy efficient properties.
