Yahoo! – Dhruv Varma – 2013
Goals
While most of the data center world was focused on HVAC system efficiencies, Dhruv Varma at Yahoo! looked to nip the problem in the bud by finding opportunities to reduce the very IT load that defines the need for HVAC capacity.
Solutions
He worked with various groups to define the criteria for the identification of underutilized assets at Yahoo’s facilities around the globe. Recognizing the possible bottlenecks in the process of weeding out these assets, he recommended possible process modifications that could not only address these bottlenecks, but also ensure the longevity of the savings.
Varma also contributed to Yahoo’s annual Carbon Disclosure Project report, yielding a score of 91 percent.
