India Fellowship Program Details

Qualifications
Ashoka-Environmental Defense Fund Climate Corps seeks postgraduate students and early-career professionals, with at 2 or more years of professional experience, who are excited to make impact through climate action and sustainability solutions. Fellows are selected for their ability to perform quantitative analyses, manage projects and help facilitate organizational change. Our core fellowship requirements are:
- At the time of application, enrolled in a postgraduate certificate or degree program studying business, engineering, sustainability, environmental management, public policy, finance, law, or other relevant subjects.
- Self-starter with project management and leadership experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Eligibility and commitment to work in India for 3 months or 6 months full time between April and September 2027.
Compensation
Each India fellow receives a fixed stipend of Rs 50,000 per month of their fellowship.
Additionally, the fellow is eligible to receive a one-time relocation allowance of up to Rs. 30,000 for expenses incurred towards accommodation and travel, subject to submission of invoices and payment receipts, only after completing the fellowship and submitting all final deliverables.
How Climate Corps works
Climate Corps looks for postgraduate students and early career professionals who are passionate about climate action and are equipped with the technical and interpersonal skills to be a sustainability leader. Our process is as follows:
1. Application
- If you are a postgraduate student, apply in Phase I of the application between September 1 and November 1, 2026, 11:59 pm IST.
- If you are an early-career professional, apply in Phase II of the application between December 4, 2026, and January 3, 2027, 11:59 pm IST.
2. Interviews
If your application is shortlisted, you will be called for a virtual interview where we will evaluate your qualifications and experience, and will include solving case studies. These interviews are compared to the requirements of host organizations to determine suitable matches. Shortlisted Phase I applicants will have their interviews between September and November 2026. Shortlisted Phase II applicants can expect an interview between December 2026 and January 2027.
3. Fellow-Host Matching
Matching with host organizations will happen between February and March 2027, based on your profile, interest, host’s requirement, and mutual preferences of fellow and hosts. You will be connected with your potential host organization supervisor for final confirmation. This conversation is an opportunity for you and the host to get to know one another and ensure a successful match.
4. Training
Before you start working on your fellowship project with your assigned host, you will undergo a rigorous two month training from January to March 2027 to prepare you for your fellowship and beyond.
5. Fellowship
You will work with your host organization on a climate ro sustainability project for 3 or 6 months between April and September 2027.
6. Network
The fellowships will culminate in a finale event called Climate Corps Summit where fellows come back together to celebrate on reflect on their fellowship journeys. After this, you become part of the Climate Corps alumni network and gain access to professional development opportunities.
