Climate Policy Leadership
Business must come off the sidelines to lead
Science says that to limit the worst impacts of climate change, we must achieve net-zero emissions – producing no more climate pollution than can be removed – in the United States and other industrialized nations by 2050, and worldwide soon thereafter. It’s an ambitious but achievable goal that will require a serious commitment from both governments and businesses.
A growing number of companies are setting – and achieving – science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets. But while voluntary actions by companies to reduce emissions are important, only public policy can deliver the speed and scale of reductions needed. That’s why adopting a science-based climate policy agenda is an essential element of corporate sustainability leadership.
