Diversity Equity Inclusion and Justice

Climate Corps' vision on diversity, equity, inclusion and justice

Climate Corps exists to build and mobilize a diverse climate workforce that will have an exponential impact on the climate crisis. We recognize that our individual and collective futures depend on the contributions of people from all backgrounds and identities to create lasting climate solutions. We are committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive community of fellows through their fellowships and careers.

Climate Corps embraces a vision of environmentalism that is equitable, inclusive and just. Alongside our network of climate professionals, we work toward a collectively built future where everyone, especially communities of color, low-income and marginalized communities, accesses and enjoys a healthy and sustainable works. We are committed to providing opportunities for our network to learn and act on environmental and climate justice.

Continuous improvement and accountability are essential to this work to ensure we are meeting the needs of our network and beyond. We are committed to regular evaluation of our diversity, equity, inclusion and justice efforts and being transparent about our progress.

To support and address our commitment to this vision, our 2024-2027 goals are:

  • Assemble and support diverse cohorts of Climate Corps fellows through recruiting intentionally, removing barriers to participation and revising processes, systems and programming to ensure inclusion and equity throughout our global program.
  • Equip our fellows and network to recognize the root causes of environmental inequities and advocate for environmental decision makes to collaborate with communities that have historically been marginalized, by intentionally incorporating these topics into Climate Corps’ trainings, events and resources.
  • Provide events, trainings and resources to equip our fellows and network to recognize the root causes of environmental inequities and to advocate for and collaborate with historically marginalized communities when making environmental decisions.
  • Support and uplift the diverse global Climate Corps network community by removing barriers to participation and revising processes, systems and programming to ensure equity and create a culture of belonging and inclusion for everyone in the network.
  • Assess the ways Climate Corps’ current processes and systems allow hosts to impact the program’s diversity, equity, inclusion and justice goals and determine pathways to address those impacts.
  • Create a culture within the Climate Corps team of continuous learning, feedback, improvement and accountability on diversity, equity, inclusion and environmental/climate justice through staff training, quarterly progress reviews, individual goal setting and biannual reporting.

There is still much work to be done and we welcome any feedback and suggestions on ways to develop and improve.
